Innovative products and new installation standards

About

The 2nd International Conference “Window Day 2015” was successfully held on March 25, 2015. In Zagreb, 190 participants, the largest manufacturers of construction products (profiles, windows and doors, blinds and screens, frames, steel reinforcements, fittings, etc.), architects and designers, were successfully gathered at the congress center of Hotel Antunović.

This conference is a trade show with the main goal of introducing innovative products, improving production and product fitting, keeping in mind the legislation, properties and labeling of construction products. After last year’s successful conference and expressed satisfaction of participants and sponsors, it was organized again so that everyone interested in windows, doors, facades and civil engineering in general would get new information and share experiences to improve product and business.

The organizer of the conference was Euroinspekt – drvokontrola d.o.o. in cooperation with the ift Rosenheim Institute of Germany, with the support of the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning and Sponsorship of leading European profile and fence manufacturers (GEALAN, ALPHACAN, PROFINE CROATIA, REHAU, ROLOPLAST MOŠIĆ, GBM – ALUPLAST, KOVINOPLASTIKA, LOKVE i ALUKÖNIGSTAHL).

The topics of this year’s conference were focused on: news in the windows and doors sector, practical experience and advantages of the RAL installation system, energy efficiency and sustainability, system certification – evacuation doors, window and door fire resistance, CE mark and Statement of Characteristics for windows and doors, projects and funds from EU funds to improve production and energy efficient and sustainable products and partner experiences in different aspects of production and products.

The program was started by the introductory words from the Euroinspekt – drvokontrola d.o.o. Director mr. Sc. Mladen Komac, followed by a welcome speech by representatives of the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning, Dubravka Banov, spec. and the representative of ift Rosenheim, Roland Fischer, B.Sc. ing. The first lecture on the legal framework and novelties was held by Dubravka Banov, spec. who reminded us all of the essential requirements for construction products. The following lecture was held by Ilija Prskalo, B.Sc. ing, director of Euroinspekt – drvokontrola’s laboratory, which emphasized the requirements of standards and experiences from the laboratory when testing products. The “RAL” installation (special window installation) enters a large gateway to Croatia and the current topic was presented by Roland Fischer, B.Sc. ing, from ift Rosenheim. Mr. Fischer has also dealt with the topic related to fire resistance testing on windows and doors, which is covered by a new legal framework. The issue of door certification on evacuation paths which, since joining Croatia into the EU, falls into system 1, was dealt with by Miroslav Turk, dipl. ing., Director of Certification Department at Euroinspekt – drvokontrola. Alexander Riemer, MBA, from Alukönigstahl GmbH, Austria, told us more about the subject as a manufacturer of door profiles and fittings on evacuation paths. About the Importance of Innovation, Design and Energy Efficiency, talked Ivica Maurović, B.Sc. ing, member of Gealan Fenster-Systeme GmbH, Germany. As an example of his new product, Franjo Mihelčić, dipl. ing from Lokve d.o.o. presented experience in innovative aesthetic solutions and the use of composite materials. Elena Tarubarova, B.Sc. ing, from ift Rosenheim, presented the energy labeling of products and division of the classes. In the end Bojan Bajić, dipl. oec., director of Innovation and Development d.o.o., presented the possibilities of obtaining funds through projects and EU funds to improve production and energy efficient and sustainable products.

During the discussion panel it was possible to ask direct questions, and the answers were given by competent persons and the following conclusions were made:

We are to still follow the Adaptations to Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 relating to windows and doors. Changes are frequent and Euroinspekt – drvokontrola and ift Rosenheim are available for advice and education. Since this year, the CE marking has also included internal room doors which were not yet mandatory and manufacturers have to prepare in time, especially with regard to the CE marking of the door characteristics.

The doors on the evacuation paths have become mandatory for CE marking, the regulation is already in force, it is mandatory to examine and prove the releasing and closing forces, also the factory control of the production is obligatory because such a product is classified into the rating system 1 under the same system such as fire doors and windows. The current situation is that only 10% of the manufacturers of such doors in Croatia have been tested for the release and opening forces and the factory control introduced.

It is noted that the results obtained by cascading the test results do not correspond to the actual results of the test, and the manufacturer using this simplified transfer method and the use of other results leads to the situation indicating the results most often not achievable. It emphasizes that the Statements of the Statement of Properties and the CE markings stands legally and responsibly and suggests that the Declarations state the realistic features of the windows or doors. The cascade system is a simplified transfer of test results, but it also has its own prerequisites, eg. a cascade system can only work if the same user uses the same profile, the same seal, the same fitting, the same glass as the first sample tested by the supplier of the profile exclusively by the supplier of the profile, has introduced and supervised factory production control etc. It is suggested that manufacturers through their factory production control and initial laboratory testing use their own results and declare the true characteristics of the Property Statement. This eliminates any suspicion of declared characteristics and ensures smooth movement of the EU market.

Special ways of installing the window or how the “RAL” assembly is known to us is more and more present through projects but also at the request of the investor. Euroinspekt – drvokontrola and ift Rosenheim are able to certify such future objects, not only because of the added value of the apartment’s square, energy efficiency, but also as additional security for the customer that the windows are built on special requirements and instructions.

Recycled and composite materials are increasingly an integral part of new advanced products. These materials are developed in an environmentally conscious manner and the future is in the production of construction products.

We would like to thank all those who participated and supported the organization of the 2nd International “WINDOW DAY 2015” Conference.

We are grateful for the lecturers’ time and effort they put in creating the presentations and meeting the audience with answering their questions. All the presentations were very professionally composed as the the basis of this gathering. We hope that next year we will work on current issues together.

A special thanks to the sponsors who recognized this event as a platform for interconnection and investment of time and money to make it all happen in the best light. Your support is of utmost importance and we believe that it is precisely because of that that we are recording an increase in the number of conference participants. We look forward to continuing our cooperation.

Once again, THANK YOU!
