About

The 3rd International “WINDOW DAY 2016” Conference was held on 23.03.2016. in Zagreb, in the congress center of Hotel Antunović and successfully gathered 187 participants from 6 countries, most of which are construction products manufacturers (profiles, windows and doors, blinds and screens, glass, fittings, steel reinforcements, etc.)
This conference is a trade show with the main goal of introducing innovative products, improving production and product fitting, keeping in mind the legislation, properties and labeling of construction products. It has been organized for the third year in a row so that everyone interested in windows, doors, facades and civil engineering in general will receive new information and share experiences to improve product and business.

The organizer of the conference is the Euroinspekt – drvokontrola d.o.o. in cooperation with the ift Rosenheim Institute of Germany, with the support of the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning and Sponsorship of leading European manufacturers of profiles, fittings and accessories for installation (GEALAN, ALPHACAN, INOUTIC, REHAU, WÜRTH – HRVATSKA, LOKVE, KOVINOPLASTIKA, PROFINE CROATIA, VEKA AG, GBM – ALUPLAST, DOMET, ALUKÖNIGSTAHL, ROLOPLAST MOŠIĆ).
The topics of this year’s conference were focused on: CE marking of fire doors, control of factory production of fire doors and doors – Compliance System 1, Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council, novelties and trends in aluminum profiles and facade materials, recycled materials in PVC profiles, the process of examining IZO glass, the application, the novelties and the correct choice of IZO glass, the practical experience and advantages of the installation of the building joinery according to the instructions and the ift Rosenheim manual, the current situation in Croatia related to the renovation and replacement of existing building joinery, and on projects and funds from EU funds for 2016.

SHORT SUMMARY OF THE CONFERENCE:

The conference was opened by welcoming speeches from Euroinspekt – drvokontrola d.o.o., mr. Sc. Mladen Komac and the Representative of ift Rosenheim, Roland Fischer, B.Sc. ing. The first lecture on the legal framework and novelties was held by the representative of the Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning Dubravka Banov, spec. and reminded us of all the essential requirements for building products, documentation and labeling. The following was a lecture by Goran Jakovac, B.Sc. ing from Euroinspekt – drvokontrola, control of factory production and conditions of the cascade system. It was emphasized that the manufacturer must have prescribed procedures for supervision, production procedures and testing of elements and finished products. The representative ift Rosenheim, Roland Fischer, B.Sc. ing introduced the ift assembly manual (special window installation) as a very useful tool for manufacturers and contractors and continued with the current topic of fire resistance testing and CE marking, which is covered by the new legal framework. The experience in the field of fire resistance was presented by Alexander Riemer, MBA from Alukönigstahl GmbH, Austria. From the profile manufacturer’s point of view, he emphasized the importance of market demand, market surveillance, data accuracy and trust. He explained that product reports can also be used as a marketing tool. Saša Dakić, B.Sc. oec., from the company Innovation and Development d.o.o., presented the possibilities of obtaining funds through projects and EU funds for the improvement of production and energy-efficient and sustainable products. As the support for EU building projects is available for the reconstruction of buildings and energy efficiency, this topic was dealt with by Goran Jakovac, B.Sc. ing. He presented various ways of obtaining better thermal insulation results and the problem of retaining the same look of the facade after replacing the carpentry. Another partner experience was presented by Ivica Maurović, BSc. ing., MBA, from Gealan Fenster-Systeme GmbH, Germany on trends in window and door markets in the EU. He recalled a fall in the market between 2008 and 2014 in all the European countries and a recovery from 2015 onwards. He also pointed out that PVC profiles occupy over 50% of the market share in leading producer countries, and PVC eventually penetrates into more expensive segments such as aluminum and aluminum wood, and as one of the most important success factors in the market highlighted differentiation. Following on the topic of PVC, the presentation was held by Michael Vetter, B.Sc. ing, from Rewindo GmbH, Germany, on the efficiency of recycling resources. Rewindo was founded by large profile manufacturers, through their own initiative, to manage the entire cycle from production to recycling. Karin Lieb, B.Sc. ing from ift Rosenheim, Germany, talked about the IZO glass testing. Dr. Darija Gajić, Architect from the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Banja Luka, BiH, talked about the values of u-coefficient.
During the panel discussion it was possible to ask direct questions and the answers were given by competent persons and the following conclusions were made:

  1. Large window and door manufacturers are increasingly developing through quality, education and own development, expanding the production program of cosmetics, and thus increasing their market share.
  2. Regulation No. 305/2011 for windows and doors, its application, quality assurance, certifications and production control, will increase the quality of service and construction products to the end customer, which become increasingly demanding.
  3. with further support of state bodies and funds for the renovation and replacement of windows and facades for energy efficiency, a further recovery of the window and door markets in the Republic of Croatia is expected.
  4. The recycle in PVC profiles has its advantages, it is slowly losing the impression that recycling in the PVC profile is a bit bad, even if the composition itself improves, especially in a static sense. On the other hand, the public should be more aware of this ecological measure, especially since all European renowned profile makers have long accepted and used recycling.
  5. The testing of IZO glass for windows is also very important because it is closely related to total window heat coefficients and directly affects energy efficiency. The preconditions for displaying the thermal conductance of the glass are the testing of the permeability of the glass moisture and the gas leakage from the glass.
  6. The FENSTERBAU window fair, held in Nuremberg from 16 to 19 March 2016, has demonstrated new trends, innovations, bringing together professionals and end-customers in one place, more than 40,000 visitors in five days. With the absence of domestic fairs, the Nuremberg window fair became the main event of the year in the field of construction joinery.
