9th International Conference
Current trends, projections and innovations
The largest annual meeting of construction branch, 9th international conference WINDOW DAY organized by ift Hrvatska and the German Institute for Window Technology ift Rosenheim has been held on 29.06.2022. in Zagreb, Croatia.
The conference gathered over 260 participants and experts from the industry, manufacturers of windows, doors, facades and related industries, suppliers of profiles, manufacturers of glass, fittings and accessories for installation, and numerous architects, designers and investors from 10 European countries were also present.
Our guests came from Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and of course Croatia as the host country.
The main topics of the conference relate to education in the field of product innovation, digitalization and application of new products, installation of windows and doors, but also topics in the field of legislation, environmental protection and sustainability of materials used in construction. The conference has an educational character also as well as an interactive emphasis on current topics of situation on the window market.
The German participants from the ift Institute Rosenheim emphasized the importance of the CO2 footprint in the production and disposal of construction products. It was pointed out that the emergence of inflationary trends will certainly not bypass the construction sector either, therefore the conference held an open discussion on current events and the achievement of additional synergy of all protagonists in the sector, as well as the adoption of concrete conclusions. Mr. Christian Kehrer from ift Rosenheim Germany introduced us to the basics of the carbon footprint of products (EPD, LCA, CO2) as an increasingly asked certificate on the European market. Mrs. Snježana Turalija from Greenika explained to us the requirements of the DGNB certification of buildings and the need to evaluate the EPD, LCA and CO2 footprint of the product. It was concluded that the carbon footprint of products and the certification of buildings will be increasingly demanded by investors in the future.
There was also talk about innovations in the installation of windows, that is, the installation of construction products (windows, doors) as an extremely important factor in energy saving and sound insulation. The importance of thermal values of windows as the most wanted characteristic in the form of energy saving was also emphasized. Our colleague Mr. Roland Fischer from the ift Rosenheim Institute explained this topic. Professor Mr. Zoran Veršić from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb followed up on the topic of sound, who emphasized the impact of quality window installation.
We continued with the topic of aspects of decentralized ventilation, which Mr. Alexander Riemer from AluKönigStahl Austria spoke about in a very interesting lecture.
The morning block of the conference concluded with a very active panel discussion on energy saving and thermal values of windows, then there was talk about the interpretation of thermal calculations, their applicability, the experience of window manufacturers, but also the role of supervision and designers in the field. The participants of the large panel discussion were Mr. Jörn Peter Lass, director of the ift Rosenheim Institute, Mr. Dimitrios Moustakidis from ift Greece, Mr. Hrvoje Komac from ift Hrvatska, Mr. Lino Fučić as an expert in the field of legislation, Mr. Natko Bilić, designer and supervisor, Mr. Aleksandar Terer from Profine Croatia and Mr. Josip Šimunec from the company Deceuninck.
After a break planned for socializing, networking, exchange of experiences, conversations, short meetings, refreshments and lunch, we continued the conference with the innovative topic of glued window technology, which was presented to us by Mr. Michael Merkle from Kömmerling Chemische Fabrik from Germany, and we continued with anti-burglary topic and interpretation of the new European standard EN 1627 with practical experience from the field.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Robert Križanović from Gealan, Mrs. Antonija Mušović from AGC Flat Glass, Mr. Hrvoje Komac from ift Hrvatska, Mr. Roland Fischer from ift Rosenheim Germany and Mr. Aleksandar Riemer from AluKönigStahl Vienna took part in the large concluding panel.
